Youth Deserve
LGBTQIA+ Rights
Research from GLSEN has shown that LGBTQIA+ youth often face hostile and unwelcoming school environments due to their sexual orientation, gender, and gender expression, with transgender and nonbinary students experiencing especially high levels of discrimination. Comprehensive sex education that is inclusive of sexual orientation and gender diversity can help to create a safer, more supportive climate for all students, not only providing critical health information but also fostering understanding and empathy. By addressing diverse identities in an affirming, shame-free manner, inclusive sex education reinforces LGBTQIA+ students' rights to respect and support, helping offset hostile conditions and contributing to a more welcoming school culture. This approach not only supports LGBTQIA+ youth but promotes a broader culture of acceptance, which benefits all students by reducing prejudice and encouraging mutual respect in schools.
